 The
number one intangible cultural asset of Gang Won - Do
is JeongSeon Arirang, which is a traditional Korean song
from Jeongseon. From olden days until now, the rivers
and mountains of the JeongsSeong area have always been so
beautiful. A Woo Ra Ji means " a mixing " and
refers to mixing of the wathers of two streams. Korean
people have the Asian concept at Yin & Yang which
is known is Korean as Eum & Yang. The rivers represent
the two forces of Yin and Young ( or Eum and Yang ). So
it's believed that if the " Yin river has more water
than the Yang river " then there wil be a flood that
year. However if the Yang river has more water, everything
will be fine. A long time ago, logs used to be carried
dow the river on rafts. A Woo Ra Ji was the starting point
of the journey. There is an old story which was the basis
of the Jeong Seon Arirang. One of the men who worked on
the logging rafts had a lover who used to wiat for him
at the end of the journey. Her sadness which she was waiting
was the inspiration for the song. Koreans people wanted
to remember her, so in 1987 a sharin was made called CheoNyeo
( Virgin ). It wa remodelled in 1999. |
