 The first theme cave
of Korea includes themes such as Golden Nature, a Goblins
Fairy Tale, Gold Vein 365, Story Land, World of Gold and
a natural cave. Haw Am Cave is rich in symbolism from
the past to the present. The themes are all based on gold
and nature. On view are some of the original miners tools
and equipment from the time of the Japanese collonization.
Real gold veins can be seen and gold mining processes
and the uses of gold is shown. There are numerous exhibits
and videos to view. The Goblin fairy tale theme is about
Goblins who look similar to human beings and so a natural
closeness is felt with them. Goblins are said to give
" Hope and Fortune ". This cave mascot is very
popular amongst visitors. Haw Am Cave is 1,803 meters
in length. In total, there are 5 sections and 42 different
zones. It usually takes an hour and a half to 2 hours
to see the sites.
Historical Place
Cheon Po mine is an old mine which is now used as an exhibition
center. Old mining processes can be viewed including:
pure veins of gold, some of the original equipment and
trace by-prouducts. Other features of the exhibit include:
Gurim Bawee plaza (Bawee meaning rock in Korean), 2 mine
shaft, gold veins, blast sites, mining, an inventory warehouse,
a gun powder warehouse, a collapsed tunnel, mining railway,
a resting area for miners and a miners office. There is
also a place where one can try your hand at mining using
the old methods. In all, there are 16 different zones.
There's a subterranean pool, Nodaji palace and a 200 meter
vertical shaft.
Gold vein 365
Gold veins can be viewed in the cave. The cave has an
upward incline so that between the lower part and the
higher part, a difference in elevation of 90 meters
is observed. It is 200 meters long and the one section
has 365 stairs. The cave has interesting natural shapes
such as fire, dinosaurs, turtles and so on. The cave
has a mysterious, eerie feeling.
Story land
Hwa Am cave has gold and silver goblins as mascots.
The goblins tell the story of mining and explain the
value of gold. The goblin presentation is comprised
of: the Goblin Front Door, Goblin Gold Mine 1 and 2,
Goblin Plaza 1 and 2, Goblin Smeltery, the Treasure
Place, Goblin Gold factory, Goblin Jungsun Arirang (Arirang
which is a Korean traditional Folk song), A Goblin Train
Ride and Goblin Water Land.
Gold Wold
You can learn all about gold through the exhibition
videos. There are 18.5 Kg gold bars on display. The
presentation talks about digging for gold, mining, processing
gold, different kinds of gold and characteristics of
gold. It also discusses gold which was donated by citizens
for national use.
Natural Cave
Natural Cave is the biggest cave in Asia. There are
natual cave formations comprised of stalagtites and
stalagmites in interesting shapes such as the Virgin
Mary and the Buddha.
